چکیده
Despite earlier angiography, poststenotic aneurysm of the aorta was an unexpected finding at operation in two patients with coarctation. One aneurysm was found in an intercostal artery in a 19 year old man and the other was a false aneurysm just distal to the coarctation site in a 7 year old boy. These aneurysms are fragile, apt to rupture, and difficult to diagnose preoperatively. Though local factors such as jet streams and bacterial endocarditis may influence their formation there must be an underlying generalised weakness in the arterial wall. A coarctation should not be regarded as an isolated arterial abnormality because it may be a feature of a more generalised disease. Because of the risk of rupture, which may not be prevented by antihypertensive treatment, operation should not be delayed in any age group. The Royal Hospital for Sick Children, Glasgow IM Mitchell

SUMMARY: Coarctation of the aorta is a congenital heart disease consisting 7% of total congenital heart diseases. Its prevalence in men is 2 times more than that in women. This disease is associated with other congenital diseases. including aortic bicuspid valve, the linkage between two ventricles and arteriole channel It is often seen in the Turner syndrome which may lead to complications su...

Bicuspid aortic valve and/or coarctation of the aorta are consistently associated with ascending aortic and para-coarctation medial abnormalities. Medial abnormalities in the ascending aorta are prevalent in other types of patients with a variety of forms congenital heart disease (CHD), such as single ventricle, persistent truncus arteriosus, transposition of the great arteries, hypoplastic lef...
متن کاملThree-dimensional imaging of aortic aneurysm after balloon angioplasty for coarctation of the aorta.
A15-year-old girl was referred to our hospital for reevaluation and balloon angioplasty of a previously documented coarctation of the aorta. She had undergone coarctectomy at age 1 week and patch closure of a ventricular septal defect at age 1 year. Three years before referral, she had received balloon angioplasty to relieve postoperative restenosis of the descending aorta; this improved the pr...

Balloon angioplasty for aortic coarctation was introduced in 1979 for the fust time.1 This procedure soon became the choice treatment for restenosis of operated coarctation,2-5 but remains controversial for native (unoperated) coarctation. However, it seems to be rapidly becoming the intervention of choice for relief of unoperated coarctation as well. In this study, we evaluate the outcome ...
